Richard Butcher, who has died at the age of 29, had three separate spells with Lincoln City, making 128 appearances and scoring 12 goals. A central midfielder, he played a key part in the Imps sides that reached the 2003 and 2005 Play-off finals under Keith Alexander. In 2005 he left City for League 1 Oldham Athletic, before returning to Sincil Bank for a loan spell. He subsequently played for Peterborough and Notts County before joining Lincoln for a third spell in 2009 under former manager Peter Jackson. In the summer of 2010, with his first team opportunities limited at Sincil Bank he joined Macclesfield Town.
